Level 3 Literacy

Writing

We will start using Lucy Calkins curriculum for writing. Students will learn to write daily through watching us model writing or participating in shared writing, writing independently, and conferencing with us.  Students will work on ideas, word choice, conventions, organization, voice, and sentence fluency.  They will explore modes of writing and learn a variety of grammar and conventions.  Students will write for a variety of purposes and audiences.  Students will do some of their writing on Microsoft Word, Google documents, and paper.  They may take notes on their laptops or on lined paper.  Throughout the year, you can ask your child to bring home his or her flash drive to see what we are working on in writing or ask them to show you their Google documents.  Students should use their best handwriting, cursive, or print.   Students will also have an opportunity to  practice their keyboarding skills through Typing Club.  You can also ask your child to bring home their writing notebook or composition notebook to see what they are working on at any time. They will also do 4 or more writing assessments.

There may be writing homework throughout the year. Check the Google classroom for these assignments (we will send paper copies if needed).
